About

Hello, friends!

Welcome to Redeeming the Wretch.

This is a place for people. Real, raw, seriously-flawed-but-wonderful people.

Redeeming the Wretch is a space to struggle, celebrate, and share life together; the good, the bad, the ugly, even what I like to call the “too long struggle”.  It is a place to grapple with darkness and light, life and death, goodness and evil, joy and pain, spirituality and the natural world. It is a place to grapple with them together within a community of unique friends with varied perspectives on life. This is a space to struggle together and to be okay with whatever that struggle might look like. It is also a place to share joys, occasional recipes, maybe a poem or two, and bits of encouragement with a whole hell-of-a-lotta realness.

Who am I?

My name is Heidi. I am a woman, a wife, a mother, a writer. I am a lover of roller skating, Jesus, nature and craft beer. I am gritty and real, but jovial as well. I enjoy dealing with the tough issues of life while trying to find and embrace the whimsical underbelly of it all. I love theology, but I also think endless discussions on theology are useless if it is not made understandable and practical for everyday life. I am into deep thinking that leads to real-life, practical spirituality. Head meets heart meets hands type of spirituality. I am blessed with an incredible community of friends who hold vastly different worldviews than I, and I would have it no other way. As it is difficult to look at the whole of life, from many different angles and points of view if you surround yourself with only one type of friend.

I am a foodie. I love to make things. I try to see God’s grace in all things; visits to the park, music, movies, conversations, a great IPA, a nice, smooth cigar and maybe even suffering. I am not fluffy. I am not the, “Hey girlfriend, let’s get our nails done and go shopping” type of gal. Rather, I am the “Hey, let’s grab a pint, talk about life, and make a few inappropriate jokes along the way” kinda gal.

I hope you will lock arms with me in this journey, as we grapple with the beautiful and the sometimes not-so-beautiful, and let’s enjoy this adventure together!
